It’s been 14 quarters since the Cyclones scored at touchdown on Iowa. And Lamaak knows if ISU is to upset the ninth-ranked Hawkeyes Saturday (2:30 p.m., ABC), that streak must end. “When you play a great team like this, you need to score points in the red zone, and we got to come away with seven points,” Lamaak said. “That is definitely something we are going to focus on.”
Yes, the Cyclones won 15-13 in 2008 thanks to a strong defensive effort and five field goals by Bret Culbertson. But Lamaak doesn’t expect that formula to work again. “You score touchdowns to beat Iowa,” Lamaak said. ISU has had only seven red zone trips against the Hawkeyes since former quarterback Bret Meyer scored a 9-yard touchdown run in the second quarter of the 2006 game.
